Tall Ships® Tacoma
In 2005, Tacoma hosted the American Sail Training Association’s TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race Series with a Tall Ships® festival that drew 30 classic sailing vessels to the Thea Foss Waterway and Tacoma waterfront. Estimates placed the number of attendees at over half a million people and the festival created nearly $1 million in television and print coverage for the community and supported businesses across the region through increased tourism. Tall Ships® Tacoma was awarded “2005 Port of the Year” honors by the American Sail Training Association for this highly successful event.
In 2008, Tacoma will again host the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race Series with a Tall Ships® festival which will feature many popular events, including a Parade of Sail. Visitors will be able to attend ship sailings, ship tours, educational events and exhibits, musical performances, and a festival environment jam-packed with food, crafts, displays and all sorts of nautical-themed activities. All of these events will create opportunities for attendees to meet the crews of the visiting vessels. The ships will arrive in the Thea Foss Waterway on July 3rd, 2008 and will depart on July 6th, 2008.
Tall Ships® Tacoma is produced by the Tacoma Tall Ships Organization, a not-for-profit organization registered in the State of Washington.
