Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust

Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust is a non-profit corporation whose mission is enhancement and development of the historic waterfront in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. During our organization’s fifteen year existence many new docks and facilities have been constructed that allow vessels of all sizes to enjoy the historic downtown area. The waterfront is a major tourist attraction.

Major festivals in Wilmington are the Azalea Festival in early April and Riverfest in early October. Both festivals attract tens of thousands of people to the riverfront. During Riverfest in October WHET sponsors the “Invasion of the Pirates” flotilla on Saturday evening with all of the boats lighted and decorated with a pirate theme.

Wilmington is located approximately 20 miles upriver from the Cape Fear River Entrance which is midway between Charleston, SC and Norfolk, VA. Operators of tall ships are encouraged to contact us and schedule a visit to experience the wonderful southern hospitality of Wilmington.
