Tonquin Foundation

The Tonquin Foundation is a Vancouver Island-based organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and interpretation of the rich but fragile maritime heritage resources of British Columbia and beyond. The Foundation engages in marine and terrestrial archaeology, a wide range of educational and research programs, museum science and historic watercraft construction and preservation.

Each year the Foundation mounts the Westcoast Maritime Festival in the communities of Tofino, Ucluelet, Opitsat, Echachist and Ahousaht which features a wide variety of nautical events; including visits by domestic and foreign tall ships and First Nations tribal canoe journeys.

The Foundation is committed to promoting cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect by celebrating the shared journey of our seafaring ancestors.
