Thompson Island Outward Bound

Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides outdoor adventure and experiential learning programs for young people from diverse economic backgrounds. Located in the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area, Thompson Island is a unique destination for work or play.

In our Expeditionary Sailing program, nine students ages 12 – 17, are trained in the fundamentals of seamanship including chart reading, navigation and sail theory aboard our historic pulling boats. They learn to handle an oar, read a compass, set anchor, and sail a boat designed for all kinds of weather. They spend 12-14 days exploring miles of Massachusetts Bay, from the Boston Harbor Islands to the shores of Cape Ann with a company internationally recognized as an industry leader in the field of experiential education.
