Tall Ships® Youth Adventure Program 2007
Sails Aboard ASTA Member Vessels
Funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), The American Sail Training Association’s Tall Ships® Youth Adventure program provides positive life changing experiences on ASTA Member tall ships and sail training vessels for youth in underserved communities through a series of scholarship and grant programs to make out of school time programs more accessible and affordable to young people. ASTA and ASTA Member affiliates identify at-risk youth and collaborate with other local youth serving organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Girl Scouts, etc. ASTA and ASTA Member affiliates work with these local organizations in designing, delivering and monitoring after school or out of school sail training programs that foster self confidence and self efficacy. Program participants learn teambuilding and leadership skills that they will carry with them when they step ashore and into their transition to adulthood. Tall Ships® Youth Adventure provides young participants valuable experiences that prepare them to positively deal with the challenges that they will encounter throughout their lives.
