The Schooner SoundWaters is an 80' steel-hulled, gaff-rigged schooner launched in 1986. The schooner serves more than 6,000 students and adults annually sailing from Stamford Harbor and numerous other ports in Long Island Sound. Shipboard programs focus on marine science, and the boat also provides private charters and public sails. The Captain is a seasonal position beginning on 2/26/19 and ending on 12/20/19. The Captain is responsible for the safe operation of the vessel, ship maintenance, and regulation compliance. S/he trains and manages a crew of six. The Captain establishes and maintains constructive, supportive relationships with the Lead Educator, who is responsible for shipboard programs, and the crew. S/he maintains excellent relationships with the U.S. Coast Guard and stays current with all matters pertaining to the industry. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, an unwavering commitment to safety, and a passion for education.
