LCF is a non-profit educational organization providing hands-on, interdisciplinary programs in challenging environments for students of all ages and backgrounds. Must be interested in joining a team of dedicated professionals to work aboard one of our historic Chesapeake Bay workboats – the pungy schooner LADY MARYLAND, or skipjack SIGSBEE. Programs range in length from one-day trips to ten-day extended land/sea expeditions in the waters of Baltimore, the Chesapeake Bay, its tributaries as well as off the New England coast. Qualified applicants must possess a strong commitment to the education of all students, be motivated self-starters, function successfully as part of a team, and maintain a desire to work outdoors in a challenging but fun environment. Education/biology background is preferred, but we will train the right people. Drivers license and clean driving record required. This is a physically demanding job that necessitates a certain amount of physical fitness.

The schooner SULTANA is currently seeking a Chief Mate for its 2012 sailing season. Employment for this position begins in late February and can continue through mid-August or, ideally, through the end of the season in November. During the 2012 season, SULTANA will travel the full length of the Chesapeake Bay, visiting numerous ports in both Maryland and Virginia. SULTANA will work with over 4,500 students and teachers doing educational day sails as well as week long live aboard programs. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and prior educational/sailing experience are preferred. A minimum 50 ton Inland license is required. Applicants should have strong communication skills and an active interest in education. Crew members work 5-day weeks, receive competitive compensation and are provided with a private bunk on board the schooner as well as space in SULTANA’s crew apartment in downtown Chestertown, Maryland.
