Doug Prothero

Doug Prothero has spent the past twenty five years in the business of operations, ownership, and construction of ships (including four tall ships). He hails from a family tradition of marine historians and work boats. Prothero holds a Transport Canada Masters license for the operation of passenger and sail training vessels. He has participated in over 75 tall ships events as a ship operator and/or event organizer. His formal education was in Marine Studies (both undergraduate and graduate levels) and he also holds a degree in music (with an emphasis on jazz studies). Doug is President and CEO of Tall Ship Silva Inc. and Canadian Sailing Expeditions (both of Halifax), and is Vice President and COO of West Island College Class Afloat. He is the Chairman of the Canadian Sail Training Association and is a founding Trustee of Sail Training International. In addition to activities in the sail training community he serves on a private sector advisory board to the Minister of Tourism for Nova Scotia.
